I was reading in Isaiah this morning, chapter 53, and verse 2 and 3 stood out to me as they always do, "he hath no form nor comliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief". I've been thinking about the ways I think of Jesus, pondering a lot lately on Who He is to me. I have really wanted to see Him as a personal Lord. A very personal Friend. Someone I lean on. Someone I talk to. Someone I worship. Someone I adore.
It called me to question things about my life, my spirituality. Not my salvation. I believe I am saved by His grace. But I had to question why? Why would He want me? I have transgressed beyond measure in my lifetime. Why would He want to be close to me?
It amazes me to think that a man, small in stature, thin, maybe He looked frail - to think that this man carried the burdens, the sins, of the entire world on His shoulders. He carried the weight of the world on the cross. He suffered for every sin of mankind. This little frail man bore this weight of untold magnitude. Yet with His voice He commanded a sea to be still, a dead man to come back to life; He caused a blind man to see by putting mud made out of dirt and spit on his eyes, he caused clear water in jugs to be turned into red wine. Through His power the Red Sea parted and thousands upon thousands of Israelites crossed on dry land. Did you ever wonder what happened to all the fish just then? I saw a picture once of the Red Sea being parted, and you could see fish in the "walls" made by the water. Incredible.
But this God of all the ages wasn't just a God of miracles, a God of might and valor. He wasn't just our Saviour, to sit on His Throne on High. Something tells me that He wants to truly be our love, our friend, our confidente, our leader, our guide.
So I'm thinking and pondering in my heart. Imagining if you will, that He is sitting right beside me as I type this. Watching the words that I type, while knowing the intent of my heart.
I want to remember this, keep Him beside me by constantly inviting Him, making Him welcome, making Him comfortable. This great God, Jehovah Jirah, my Creator, my Saviour, God of all mankind - He wants to be my best friend. He wants to talk to me and me talk to Him. He wants my burdens, because He knows He can take care of them. He wants me to trust Him. He wants me to love Him. I want that too.
