Higher Ways

"If I could only fly I'd go up, and look down from the sky, so I could see the bigger picture.
And Lord if I could sit with You at Your Feet, for an hour or two, I'm sure I'd ask too many questions....
'cause there's so much going on down here....and I must confess I just don't understand...I don't understand.

But I have prayed. And at Your Feet my whole life has been layed. So I won't worry, I won't be afraid, 'cause my soul is resting on Your Higher Ways.
So let the road ahead become unclear. Oh, I am Yours, so what have I to fear...if my soul is resting on Your Higher Ways.

Your Higher Ways teach me to trust You.
Your Higher Ways are not like mine.
Your Higher Ways are the ways of a Father, hiding His children in His Love."

- SC Chapman.

I have long loved this song, and it's words reverberate in my mind now...I see my small world, and how I react, and the things going on around me that seem so huge, and then I think about how it must look to Him, and even though it overwhelms me, I'm sure it underwhelms Him. I'm thinking about my reactions to things, people, situations....when I'm in the moment, I find myself questioning myself constantly, wondering is it the right thing to say, hoping it's the right thing to say. Then when the moment is passed I wonder did I handle that situation right? Could I have handled it differently?
There are momentous events happening in the lives of the people closest to me right now....events that shake and shape my life as though they were happening to me, though in theory they are not. When my friend hurts, I hurt. When trouble comes, I react, either positively or negatively. I must admit, that more often than not, I find myself in a negative channel, even though I am striving to be positive.
I have a close friend who is a ray of sunshine to me and to us all; no matter what befalls her, and she's had more than her share of heartache as of late, she smiles and says "it's alright" and "He knows" and "it's gonna be OK"....I'm bellyachin' and snottin' and half the time am angry or sad, and I hear those words "it's alright" and it brings me to contrition. I start thinking about how I handle things, and what my Father thinks about how I handle things, and does He look down at me and shake His head and sigh and say "when will she ever learn?" Does He look down and see all this mess and smile, knowing how He's going to bless us after the storm?
I almost lost my beloved friend last week, but God said no, and the storm is over, and she came out smiling like always. I find myself so grateful, not just that He spared my friend, but that He is still blessing us with sunshine, through my friend and her faith. It has inspired me, humbled me, chastened me, and touched me deeply, and as I know her life will never be the same, I am hoping the same for me. And I am still resting on His Higher Ways, in spite of the storm.

I love you Stephanie...we are pressing on dear sister! Remember that. This last squeeze will be hard. The last month has been the hardest of my life, but I am getting more and more ready everyday. I am praying for you and I know you are for me too
