Et tu Brute??

OK, so yeah I know I said I wasn't going to snoop out John's MySpace profile anymore, and I have only done it a couple of times, but since I have I've noticed something... the last few blogs he has written are...well...shall we say soupy sappy sickening sweet. The kind of sickening sweet that I used to get irritated about when we dated and still irritate me when I read it.
Here's the thing to remember; I do not consider myself a connoisseur of relationships; au contrair, I am very inadept - probably thus the reason I am 40 and still single. By my own admission I make lousy choices in men, and no longer trust my own judgment. I have come to the simple conclusion that I am so much safer just trusting in the Lord and forgetting about men. No broken hearts, no lies, no bruised egos, no more hurting just because you love someone. No, I have decided happily that my joy and my fulfillment comes from Jesus Christ alone, and I am content to live my life for Him.
Would I ever want to be in a relationship again? I tell my friends no, that I'm through; I don't ever want to feel that pain of heartbreak again. And believe it or not, that's pretty much how I feel. That being said, I am little by little losing my cynacism over others in their relationship bliss. However, I have read several of John's blogs over the past year, and the thing that keeps standing out to me is that he seems to be working overtime trying to convince others (who? me? Teresa? Laura?) that he is sublimely happy with his choice of wife, he is loved greater than any man on earth, he is happier than any other man on earth, and he works very hard at conveying this message over and over and over again in his blogs. To the point where I am beginning to wonder who is he trying to convince? I have many girlfriends in wonderful loving marriages. I know they exist. And the majority of said girlfriends are married to truly wonderful men. Men of honor and respect. And not a single one of them carries on about their wives to not only other friends, but the world at large, like John does.
So I've asked myself this question before, and I thought again today..."why is he working so hard at making sure John Q. Public knows how happy he is, how ecstatic he is, how wonderfully marvellously suberbly terrific his wife and their marriage is, and how he is the most blessed man in North America....why does he feel the need to repeat this over and over again?"
When he and I were dating, he would carry on in the same sugary manner, and it used to annoy the peanuts out of me. I'll believe it when you show me, not just because you tell everyone in cyberland how much you love me. That does not a testimony make. And so perhaps that's why I'm kind of annoyed, because I see him doing the exact same thing with another woman just a year and a half later, and guess what?? I ain't buying it!
This my personal and free opinion (you know, everybody has one, but not everyone's is free?)....I think a man who has to blog continuously (he's had 3 or 4 such blogs in about 2 weeks) about how wonderful life is, and how marvelous his life is, and how superb his wife is treating him, and how precious she is....(blah! I'm gagging here!)...I think that man is working TOO hard trying to convince someone...not exactly sure who....of his supreme devotion, and it's way overkill.
(It got so bad when we were together that I sat him down and talked to him and told him that too much was too much and asked him to kindly STOP!) Nobody is that sugary sweet by accident; and I think that a man that has to pour on the syrup to that severe an extent has a motive other than pure and utter devotion.
To put it simply:
"thou dost protest too much, ay brute?"
